SCAM – One of the Best Run Conventions – Ever

Latest SCAM Update – Still Great!

I have been so impressed by the quality and
quantity of the magic at the South Carolina Association of Magicians
2003 Convention. More impressive, though, is the structure and timing.
Every event has been on-time and there are almost no stretches where
there is nothing to do.

We finished the close-up and stage
contests this morning. Talk about great competition. I entered but have
no chance compared to the others.

The magicians were professional in their skills and presentation.
The awards for the contests will go out this evening at the big Gala
show. I’ll keep you updated. Now, off to see Fukai’s lectuire.

South Carolina Association of Magicians 2003 – Off to Great Start!

Dan Sperry – Amazing

The two lectures thus far in the SCAM 2003 schedule have been outstanding. They’ve been well-attended and in each case, there was plenty of time for questions and answers on very practical matters.

Dan Sperry did an outstanding job discussing the challenges and opportunities in performing a dove act. He demonstrated techniques for the appearance, splitting as well as the vanish of doves. He took time to explain how to construct the perfect suit for dove work and how to use the suit, props and technique to make for a flawless routine.

It was clear that Dan knows his stuff. His tips were practical and honest. He entertained all questions that ranged from “where can I get doves and what do the cost?” to “what do I do when they fly away while on stage?” The answers respectively: about $20.00 and “hold up a sign that says ‘Bird for Sale.’”

Trixie Bond followed with her detailed and very practical lecture on the business of performing at birthday parties. Her experience, like Dan, was evident as she took the group through from advertising, to discussing the show with a prospective customer, to proper dress and how to arrive, and finally how to entertain.

Trixie Bond – Great Lecture

Trixie has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most outstanding magicians in the country. She was recently on the cover of Magic Magazine; she performs regularly at Houston‘s Magic Island and regularly meets her goal of booking seven shows each week.Based on her performance as a speaker, however, I think she will also be hitting the lecture circuit soon. She truly cares about her magic and her business.

The dealers are great and have come with plenty of…

On The Road to South Carolina

We’re Heading South

We’ve loaded up the animals and equipment into the train cars and heading out of the little hamlet we call Mystic Hollow, Michigan to head south for the South Carolina Association of Magicians? Convention.

It should be outstanding. The shows and lectures scheduled look outstanding and I?ll be snapping pictures and getting them to the web as soon as possible.

Note: No Satellite Dish

I had ordered a satellite system so that I could broadcast from the Inside Magic train as we traveled but it was needed by ESPN to broadcast a re-run of the world?s strongest man contest from six years ago ? you know the one that shows that one big guy lifting something really heavy and carrying it further than that other big guy? I think that was the show. It might have been the one where the one big guy tries to lift something really heavy and holds it longer than the other big guy. I am not sure. But their need was clearly more significant than Inside Magic bringing you the latest from the whistle-stop tour through

Don Russell and His Dog Do Magic in Alaska

Don’s Magic Dog

Don Russell has been doing magic for over ten years from Alaska, across the U.S. and even in Europe. He specializes in magic that matches the theme or need of the audience booking him. Check out his website.

If you desire a close up act, he’s there. If you are looking for a Vegas-themed illusion show, he’s your man. But perhaps most interestingly, he is a story teller.

Don’s Dog the Storyteller

Don’s dog has a very unique name. We’d include it here but for reasons that will be come apparent when you check out his very well-made site, it just wouldn’t do it justice. With the Magic Dog, Don entertains school kids and shares stories based on or inspired by the dog with the very special name. He has over 35 stories to share along with his magic.

His dog stories and magic are used not only to educate but to inspire his audiences with titles such as “Math Magic” to “Just Say No” and “The Magic of Self-Esteem.”

Check out Don’s site, learn his dog’s very special name and enjoy the stories two stories he offers as samples. I especially enjoyed the store of “My Dog and the Mugging Victim.” He certainly is creative and enthusiastic about this art we love so much.

Magic Millions Classic to be Run in Australia

International Model Jacqui Rickards Picks Horse

This has nothing to do with magic other than the name “Magic Millions.”

Surrounding the sales and races, there is a tremendous carnival at
which we understand there will be at least one magician — if not
performing, then getting ready to bet.
