Paul Wood — Knocking Them Dead

Peter Wood Wows Them

PeterWood received a great write-up in The Business Gazette for his already considerable work in our art. He started in magic at the age of 5 when he received his first magic kit and by 10 he was doing his first professional show ? for $15.00.

He moved to birthday parties ? and he still performs for kids ? but is now moving into corporate entertainment. One of his effects intrigued me. For a company called NaturaLawn, he came up with a tremendous idea:

“I used a trick where I make small blades of grass grow into huge blades of grass, and the ‘magic ingredient’ I sprinkled on the grass to make it grow was Immersion Active’s marketing prowess.”

I read that description and have no idea how he could have performed the effect. It sounds like he has the ability to not only match effects to his client?s needs, but also to invent effects to meet the needs. I can?t think of better qualities for a magician of any age.

The president of NaturaLawn praised Wood:

“Anyone willing to go that extra mile deserves to talk,” Catron said. “Also interesting, I was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians for 15 years, and I know how effective magic can be. It’s one of the best ways to keep an audience.”

This is all paying off for the young man. He does six to twelve shows a year and has entered into the world of market research to determine the pricing and quality of his competitors.

What does he hope to do with his skills? He is a technical theater major and would like to work in special effects for theme parks and has his eyes set on Disney.

With his innovation and skill,…

Web Site Rehab

We?ve been fortunate to receive sponsors of the site. I?ve listed them on the right hand side of the page and the article pages. If you?d like to sponsor or advertise on Inside Magic, email me and I?ll give you the prices (cheap) and the terms (easy).

I?ve spent about twice the European War Debt to get a bulletin board installed on the system. I know that I?m using ikonboard and that should make it free. But at the same time, I?ve already admitted to having a nut-sized cerebellum. I hired someone to put the bulletin board system together and even allow anyone to comment on any article that appears on the system. If you would like to post, please feel free. If you would like to start new categories or forums, be my guest. I will moderate the board ? not as restrictively as other magic bulletin boards ? to keep out offensive or libelous posts.

In a strange twist of fate, I won a game of liar?s poker and the right to use a really cool calendar program. I?ll try to populate it with upcoming shows and activities in the world of magic but it is open to anyone to post their upcoming shows or things that interest them.

I?ve removed the Topica listserve. I found that by going through Topica, you not only got the latest news from Inside Magic but you also got spam. I don?t like spam and my assumption is that no one does. I?m looking for a listserve that I can install on my server so that there will be no disclosure of members? names or email addresses.
