Bev Bergeron Succeeds in Blindfold Drive

Bev Blindfolded

Great magician and all-around very good person, Bev Bergeron was featured on Wilmington, North Carolina?s WECT TV6 as he attempted a blindfolded drive through town.

But unlike many blindfolds used by lesser drivers, Mr. Bergeron used aluminum foil to cover his full face before driving.  You may think you know how a blindfold drive is performed but I challenge you to figure this one out.

A police officer followed Mr. Bergeron?s vehicle to ensure the on-lookers? safety.  The local television station noted the venerable magician ?managed not to wreck the brand new car provided by Stevenson Mazda.?

Congratulations to Mr. Bergeron for pushing the envelope for all of us.

Nepal’s Daily Magic Interview

We Don't Interview Good

Today we turn the tables on Tim.  Daily Magic of Nepal interviewed Tim Quinlan, editor and publisher of Inside Magic for their upcoming newsletter.  They kindly allowed us to publish it here.

DAILY MAGIC:         How did you get interested in magic?

TIM QUINLAN:         Don’t
you want to ask me first about my personal background before jumping
into the “how did you get interested in magic?” or “what is your
favorite trick?” questions?

DAILY MAGIC:         Okay, sure.  How old are you?

TIM QUINLAN:         That’s not what I meant by “personal background.”  I meant, “tell us about your life in magic.”

DAILY MAGIC:         Oh.  Alright.  “Tell us about your life in magic.”

TIM QUINLAN:         I started magic when I was seven years old.  I had the good fortune of seeing a classmate of mine perform Spirit Slates for our kindergarten class.  I asked my father if I could learn magic or if it was just something special people learned. He told me . . . .

Celebration Includes Tribute to Jews in Magic History

Manny Sperling

Toledo Congregation Etz Chayim is planning a magical finale to its 30th anniversary celebration next weekend.

The Orthodox Jewish synagogue was founded in December, 1974 and to celebrate the special birthday, the congregation has scheduled a weekend of observances concluding with a multimedia magic show performed by Manny Sperling of Cleveland.

Mr. Sperling?s show is targeted at an adult audience but will appeal to the kids.  His show will includes a multimedia introduction and segments honoring Jewish magicians of the past and present.  Mr. Sperling is well-known for his innovative shows for virtually all demographics: from tradeshows to school assemblies.

Rabbi Garsek included the show to end the special celebration ?on a lighter note and offer an activity that will bring families together.?  The presentation is based on Mr. Sperling?s research into Jews in the field of magic.

Mr. Sperling includes profiles of Houdini, the son of a rabbi, as well as contemporary magic stars such as David Copperfield (David Kotkin) and David Blaine.

Congregation Etz Chayim was founded in 1974 in a merger of three local congregations – Anshe Sfard, B’nai Jacob, and Sharei Zedeck.

Rabbi Garsek, 58, said the three synagogues joined forces because they saw that the local Jewish population was declining and that the three groups shared “the same purpose and goals.”
