Scumbag Magicians in our Midst

P2P Virus Blues

Some of you already know this and some of you don?t and it should probably stay exactly as it is.  But when Inside Magic began in the late 1990?s, we had just two missions; and one of them was to bring you the latest magic news.

The other mission involved our life-long goal of getting the investigative community to re-open the Warren Commission to finally consider the incredible ?coincidental? evidence that the late-Chung Ling Soo?s murderous wife, Dot, was in Dallas before and after November 22nd, 1963.  You can read more about that mission and the compelling facts that demand an answer by clicking here.

So here is the truth we are reluctant to share.

There are spin-offs of the now-emasculated Napster peer-to-peer file sharing system that have so far scooted under the radar.  Kazaa, Morpheus, eDonkey and WINMX have all set-up what is called ?true p2p systems.?

Napster incurred the wrath of the recording industry but also the penalties of the Federal Copyright law because it was more than just a way of people getting together to share files.  Napster actually kept some of the files transferred and was, therefore, more involved in the illegal acts.

These more recent entries in the peer to peer network…

Seven Year-Old Performs Sightless Drive

“She’s Just a Child!”

Saroja Roy of Hyderabad, India is the youngest blindfolded driving magician in the country. Ms. Roy has been training since she was three under H. Guhay, who has a world record in blindfold driving.

Not to rest on her laurels ? heck, we didn?t even pass our driver?s test without a blindfold until we were 19 (the test was biased against Irish Magicians) ? Ms. Roy holds the distinction of performing six magic tricks at a time and has been listed in the Limca Book of Records.

Kamalkar Roy, her pop and biggest fan, says he introduced her to the world of magic to spread awareness among people and eradicate blind beliefs. “Me and my wife were doing a lot of service to the public to eradicate blind beliefs to develop awareness among the public. On this aspect we started our stage representative programme. On the way only I developed my girl into magic to eradicate blind beliefs.”

Ms. Roy performed more than 200 charity shows all over India and has been helping children with cancer and living in orphanages. Her mother Padma Roy says magic was her inborn instinct. “When Saroja was two years old, my husband used to get a lot of toys for her. But Saroja never showed any inclination for toys. So we introduced her to magic. I think it was in her traits to perform.”

Ms. Roy hopes to enter the World Magic Championship in Madrid.  If she starts driving now, she should make it before it begins in 2005.

Congratulations Ms. Roy.

Half of Magical Duo “Penn & Teller” Gets Married

Penn Jillette & Emily Zolten Married

We were already to goof on this story the second it came across our email transom from Steve Daly.  Mr. Daly, the star of Showgirls of Magic told us that Johnny Thompson told him that Penn Jillette got married on Tuesday.  He was married to his longtime girlfriend Emily Zolten in the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel.

The happy couple elected to have the wedding at the VLVWC to take advantage of the chapel?s internet webcam hook-up.  We are so glad they did.

The ceremony lasted seven minutes and forty seconds and can be seen by clicking here.

It is really a very nice and very romantic event.  They seemed genuinely happy together and their vows were heartfelt and moving.  The bride seemed slightly nervous but very happy.

Congratulations to the happy couple and may they have a wonderful life together.  The local television station, KLAS-TV, reported there will not be a honeymoon; ?Penn rejoins his better half, Teller, tonight on stage during their nightly show at the Rio.?

You can read the news account of the event here.

Thankful for People Like Joe M. Turner

Joe M. Turner

We have been a gigantic fan of Joe Turner ever since he answered our email a few years ago; and then ? we’re guessing ? pretended to know us when we were introduced at the IBM Convention in Kansas City.

He is, as we say in the biz, a good guy.

Mr. Turner is a reviewer of magic in Genii Magazine and because we have learned to trust his opinion without question, we have learned things we would never have learned, bought things we would never have bought, and not-bought things we would have otherwise bought.

Mr. Turner was the one who told all Genii readers about Bob Cassidy?s Mental Miracles tape (now DVD).  His description of the tape and assurance that even someone like me could learn it, brought us into a whole new, and profitable world.

As we used to say in Ireland: ?Here?s the thing (pronounced ?here?s da ting?).  Mr. Turner does not have to be a nice guy.  He doesn?t have to support the causes the ?cool guys and gals? consider to be lost.  He doesn?t have to keep pushing to make magic better, more innovative, and more original.

Mr. Turner is one of the most accomplished corporate magicians in our realm.  As someone who works for a Fortune four company, we were very impressed by the list of his past clients and recommendations.  This guy has been around and has been appreciated.  The big corporate clients aren?t usually known for their courtesy and free compliments.  If they have praised Mr. Turner as much as documented on his website, that is an imprimatur we could not…
