Penn & Teller, Lance Burton Plan Big Changes

Mike Weatherford of the Las Vegas Review Journal reports Penn & Teller and Lance Burton have plans for significant changes of their current shows in 2005.

The Star of The Lance Burton Theater, Mr. Burton will continue phasing in his new illusions and upgraded lighting and sound system.  Mr. Burton is known for his meticulous planning and exhaustive rehearsal of new effects before bringing them into the award-winning show.

Penn & Teller have a few distractions as they plan to include one or two new segments into their live show by March; and major changes (including a new set designed by a unnamed Broadway production expert) by the summer.

Penn is still promoting his novel Sock, while Teller is working on his memoir ?When I?m Dead All This Will Be Yours.  These projects are in addition to Penn?s new film The Aristocrats. During their Magic Live interview with Mac King, Penn described this documentary as asking famous entertainers to give their rendition of a classic dirty joke.

Oh, and yes, they will continue with their Showtime series, B——-!

Not mentioned in Mr. Weatherford?s column is the impending demise of our favorite Showgirls of Magic.  The Hotel San Remo is scheduled for a rehab/gutting/demolition and morphing.  It will go from its present incarnation to Hooters Casino Hotel in late 2005, with a Hooters Beach Club and a restaurant owned by former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino.

At What Point Do We Come Clean?

Geraldini

There is an article in today?s Norwich Evening News (UK) titled, ?Magician Predicted Terrible Earthquake.?  The article tells the story of Geraldini (a/k/a Gerald Morter) headline prediction as part of the Cavalcade of Mystery, Magic and Illusion in Norwich.

Mr. Morter told reporters he would be able to forecast the headline of the Evening News on December 28th.  He placed his predictions into a box, locked the box and gave it to a radio presenter for safe-keeping until last night.

Mr. Morter invited the radio broadcaster to the stage of the Cavalcade and instructed him to open the box and the smaller box inside.  Inside the smallest box was a brown envelope with the prediction.

It said: “I, Geraldini, predict that the front page of the Evening News dated Tuesday, December 28 December, 2004 will reveal the worst under-sea earthquake to hit Thailand and Asia. This quake will cause great damage and loss of life.”

The front page of the Evening News told the tragic story of how a Norfolk mother-of-four was swept to her death as the immense wave hit her in Thailand.

The magicians in the reading public know how this was done but for those who don?t know the secret, you won?t learn it here.  Inside Magic does not expose magic secrets.  Suffice it to say Mr. Morter did not really predict the future headline ? there is a trick to it.

Mr. Morter refused to tell reporters for the Evening News how the effect was done. …

Lennart Green

One of our favorite columnists in PC World Magazine is Steve Bass.  We didn?t know until tonight that Mr. Bass is one of us.  He has been an amateur magician for 40 years and admits he is rarely fooled.

In today?s column, Mr. Bass invites those of us sitting in front of our office computers to admit we are not really working but killing time until the end of the year.  Once we have admitted our true nature, Mr. Bass then has suggestions on how to spend that otherwise unused time while sitting in front of our workstations.

One of the sites to which he directs readers features a video of Lennart Green performing what looks like a camera trick ? we assure you, however, it is very real.  Check out the video and watch carefully.  It is absolutely incredible.  We don?t want to tell you more for fear of ruining the wonderful illusion.

Mr. Bass writes, ?I’ve been an amateur magician for more than 40 years and I’m rarely fooled. Here’s an excerpt of a card routine that’s dazzling, one that definitely floored me. BTW, the magician’s name is Lennart Green.?

Check out the video link of Mr. Green here.

Siegfried & Roy Attacker?s Hearing Set

Cole Ford

The trial court judge considering the case of former Oakland Raider?s kicker, Cole Ford, has ordered the defendant to undergo a second psychiatric examination before a competency hearing set for January 13th.

Mr. Ford told the court he would rather not go to trial but wants to enter a guilty plea to charges he fired several shotgun blasts at the duo?s Las Vegas home.

The court said she wanted proof Mr. Ford is competent before she’ll accept a plea to charges. Mr. Ford’s lawyer won’t say whether Ford wants to plead innocent or guilty. He says Ford doesn’t really understand what’s going on.

Ford faces felony charges that could get him up to 27 years in prison. He’s been in jail since he was arrested November second.

No one was hurt in the September 21st drive-by shooting that broke windows and damaged the home of illusionists Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn.

Mr. Ford?s family in Tucson, Arizona has said Ford’s shown signs of schizophrenia.
