| Finals this Weekend |
The Daily Post reports that a North Wales magician has made the finals for the UK’s top conjuror.
Joshua Bartley is just 15 years old but has made it to the top 21 who will battle for the Young Magician of the Year final at the Magic Circle’s Head Quarters on Sunday.
Mr. Bartley worked his way through several smaller competitions to get to this spot. “This spot” is quite the spot. On Sunday, he’ll perform for a panel of experts at the Magic Circle in London.
Mr. Bartley said: “I won’t be nervous as I absolutely love a crowd and can’t get enough of that kind of environment.” His first routine will be about ten minutes long and if he makes it to the next round, he’ll have to cut the act down.
Is he handicapped by the type of magic he needs to perform? After all, he is known for his close-up but the contest focuses on stage work.
We doubt he’ll be hindered in the least. Anyone who says they “can’t get enough of” final rounds judged by the best in our business has got the stuff to get it done no matter the requirements. As we say in the US, he’ll “get it done.”
Mr. Bartley has been performing for over a third of his life — he’s fifteen now and started his public shows at ten years of age.
“My ambition is to be a professional magician and I won’t give up.

Elizabeth Konzen 1948 -2004 |
Stephen Konzen, husband of the late Elizabeth Konzen, is working with the International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 26 to present a memorial service in honor of Ms. Konzen scheduled for April 29th at 7:30.
Ms. Konzen was a beloved member of the Harry Roz-on Ring; serving as its President twice and its Secretary for 20 years.
The memorial service will include tributes from relatives, friends, and a special magic show from some of Ms. Konzen’s favorite magicians.
The event will be held at the Musicians Union Building, 322 W. 48th Street, between 8th & 9th Avenue in New York City.
Ms. Konzen’s passing was noted by many on bulletin boards, newsletters, and emails. The memorial service will provide a chance for those who knew and loved Ms. Konzen to meet in person to share recollections and enjoy the magic she enjoyed.
The event is open to all regardless of membership in Ring 26.
Our prayers are with Mr. Konzen, their families, and those who knew Ms. Konzen and feel her loss.
You can view the flyer announcing the memorial service by clicking here.

Beyond being a great guy, a fine example and role-model for kids, a fantastic promoter of the magical arts, a supporter of adoption, and one of the few superstars of magic that ever said “hi” back to our shouts in the hotel, he is a funny, creative guy.
The man who performs what Johnny Carson once called “the finest 12 minutes in Magic,” spent some bucks for an April Fools joke.
His billboard was placed about half-way between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Why?
Because, it’s funny, that’s why. It was just a practical joke he decided to offer those leaving Las Vegas. Drivers will be able to read it in their mirrors but might be confused without the special optical help.
Does Lance Burton have to advertise?
Probably not.
Does he have to remind folks what show they just saw at the beautifulLance Burton Theater in the equally wonderful Monte Carlo Resort and Casino?
Nopey.
Is it a nice touch from someone who seems to rise above the commercial aspects of the high-end segment of the biz?
We think so.
Is it obnoxious to explain something with rhetorical questions?
What do you think?
Of course it is. Sue us. We can represent ourselves for free.
Thank you, Lance Burton for all you have done, all you do, and all you will contribute to our wonderful art.
It is one of the few performing arts in which its participants can still be young and playful at heart.
Check out Lance Burton’s website.
