God-Man Sues Copperfield for Theft of Powers

This is not Inside Magic fiction. According to the Warner Brothers Celebrity Justice website, Minnesota “god” Christopher Roller has sued David Copperfield for $50,000,000.

The basis of the suit? Mr. Roller claims Mr. Copperfield has stolen or improperly used Mr. Roller’s “godly powers without permission to perform magic on stage.”

We checked out the story and aren’t convinced. While the media outlets, including Celebrity Justice, have not been able to produce a copy of the summons and complaint, Inside Magic was able to secure a copy of both documents.

Mr. Roller is acting as his own attorney in this litigation and contrary to the news reports, is not suing Mr. Copperfield for theft of “godly powers” but as a labor dispute.

Chances are, this lawsuit will be thrown out on a motion to dismiss. It is significant that there is no record of Mr. Copperfield or his attorneys receiving service of the complaint.

Not to give this strange person additional hits to his weird website, but you can check out what he thinks about himself, his position in the universe and on our planet as god, and read the other celebrities with whom he claims some special relationship. Mr. Roller apparently told reporters that if Mr. Copperfield can show how he performs his magic by means other than the borrowed god powers, he will retract the lawsuit.

In Memorium: Thomas Hardy III

Tommy Hardy (1928)

It is with great sadness that we report that Tom Hardy III has passed away. Tommy, as he known to those who knew him, was the father of Tom "Li'l Tom Hardy" Hardy IV.

He was 92 years old at the time of his passing. Tommy began his magic career working in the family act as an assistant to both his father Thomas ("Thomas") Hardy II and grandfather, Thomas ("Big Tom") Hardy.

At the age of seven, he and his father toured with Big Tom's show throughout the United States and Canada and were contemporaries of Houdini, Hermann, and Kellar. Big Tom's act was in the classic style with the magician as dapper gentleman making things appear, disappear, and change in a drawing room setting.

Tommy worked on stage as the bellhop or messenger characters. After an unfortunate falling out with Big Tom, Tommy's father Thomas broke from the show to tour first through out Central and South America, and then Europe.

Unlike Big Tom's show, Thomas portrayed a befuddled, drunk magician, unsure of his power or methods. This was his character both off and on stage. Thomas, who pronounced his name "Somath" because of a severe speech impediment acerbated by his constant drunken state, was a critical success in Guatemala and Costa Rica.

He was held over for six weeks in the Manhattan Club in pre-Castro Havana. His vanishing and reappearing lit cigars was copied by many U.S. magicians but usually with sufficient safety devices to prevent the incessant burns suffered by "Somath."

"Somath" is still the only man to attempt a tongue palm of a newly lit corona-size cigar. He was also one of the few men with three nostrils not caused by a birth defect.

At the age of 17, Tommy, or "Sthoomy" as his father called him, followed in his family's tradition and broke from the show to begin his own career. Tommy was lured from the show by his first wife, Klasse van Movin.

Klasse van Movin

Miss van Movin was of the "Dancing German Gals" vaudeville troupe performing on the same bill as Tommy and his father before the breakup. In recently released court-appointed psychiatric records, Tommy noted his attraction to Miss van Movin was in spite of their inability to communicate in a common language:

"Her movement on stage, her dance, is the language of love. My eyes, then, become my ears to hear what she says to me with every bump and grind."

The two were married in 1920. It was Tommy's first marriage and Miss van Movin's third or fourth. The couple had to annul the bride's "psychic marriage" to a disembodied, androgynous spirit Miss van Movin met through a seance.

Psychic marriages were common during this time — the heyday of Spiritualism – where young women would marry spirit voices met during seances. Often, the marriage would end in heartbreak when the bride…

Nathan Burton Goes For It – Locked In A Glass Box Live!!

Mr. Burton and Two of His Roommates

People around the globe can watch and count-down the time with Mr. Burton as he bravely endures the life-threatening act. He, the girls and the box are currently suspended in midair from in front of the “V!” Theater, at the Desert Passage mall in the Aladdin Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas strip.

Houdini submerged himself while shackled in chains; David Blaine was enclosed in a box by himself; but Nathan Burton will be accomplishing this feat Vegas-style — sandwiched between seven sexy, scantily-clad showgirls. No food, no water — only an endless supply of energy drinks!

Says Mr. Burton about the stunt, “I’m more than ready for the challenge! But, to be fair to the girls, there will actually be over 130 different showgirls rotating through the box in four hour shifts.” Burton adds, “My wife insisted on casting them”

Hopefully, Mr. Burton will emerge victorious from his glass enclosure in a challenge that no one has been brave enough, lucky enough, or dumb enough to try!

Mr. Burton has been co-starring in E! Entertainment Television’s hot new reality show, Wayne Newton’s “The Entertainer”.

Mr. Burton also currently stars in the sold-out “V – The Ultimate Variety Show” at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas and has been a staple performer in Las Vegas for the better part of the decade, performing everywhere from Caesars to The Venetian.”

Magic Trick Starts Fire at Children’s Museum

Wilmington Fire Fighters Put Out Flash Paper Fire

Fire investigators are blaming a worker’s experimentation with flash paper for a fire that shut down the Wilmington Children’s Museum, in Wilmington, North Carolina.

No children were in the museum at the time and no one was injured. The fire investigators described the ignition source as “something called flash paper, which is used in magic tricks and creates sparks.”

The museum contains a science exhibit with live turtles and reptiles but fire officials believe all of the creatures survived.

Unfortunately, fire fighters were forced to shut down several lanes of the busy Market Street during the height of rush hour.

Be careful out there with that thing called “flash paper.” You can read the coverage by the local television station here.
