WAPO Kids: Love this Magic Book

Name of this Book is Secret - Magic BookWhat is the name of the magic book praised by the kid critics at The Washington Post?

The Name of this Book is Secret.  That’s not an excuse for not telling you the name, it is the actual title.  The tome written by Pseudonymous Bosch — likely not his or her real name — intrigued the young readers with its mysterious plot and interesting perspective.

Everything having to do with magicians is a bit mysterious. So when one
magician dies and two kids go looking for answers about his death, it’s
not surprising that mysterious things start to happen.

First there is a Symphony of Smells. Then the kids stop at the
magician’s underground home and have a run-in with a not-so-nice
couple. Deciphering coded clues they find along the way leads the kids
into more trouble. (The author helpfully includes an appendix filled
with useful information, including how to figure out codes and perform
magic tricks.)

Criss Angel Planned Multi-Britney Illusion

Is One Enough? Criss Angel is in the news more often than . . . well, more than other things that are in the news that have some relationship to magic.

The Akron Beacon Journal broke with news in a story that has now been taken off their web site.  We doubt it was removed because of the content though.  Here is the old link.

It is his relationship with Britney Spears currently feeding the newswires.  True, that relationship lasted but a mere second or weekend; but in that short time, the two had plans for a spectacular illusion.

It sounded like Multiplying Bottles but with Britney instead of bottles.  There was no indication whether Britney would have a cheesy paper label reading U.F. Grant Winery like our version.

Unfortunately, Britney was not able to or did not wish to work with Criss Angel to perform the effect.

Here’s what we learned from this morning’s Angel watch:

Remember her disastrous
appearance at the VMAs, when she was supposed to present a musical
comeback and instead seemed a disoriented mess? The Los Angeles Times
recently reported on what might have been.

Illusionist and serial blond-star-dater Criss Angel, who
worked with Brit on her VMA bit, said, ”You would see Britney and then
she would split into two Britneys and then four Britneys with no boxes
or covers. It would just be a visual effect using no screens.

Porn Star Breaks Criss Angel’s Hang Time

Criss Angel's Suspension Record BrokenThe Las Vegas Sun brings word that Criss Angel’s suspension record was snapped by Matt Zane this weekend.

You can read the gory details at the Las Vegas Sun’s web site here.

Significantly, Mr. Zane decided to use less hooks than Criss Angel and hang longer.

When the four polished hooks pierce the skin of Matt Zane?s back,
down through the epidural layers and then back out, there?s no blood.

No blood and not much of anything. Zane just twitches a couple of fingers on his right hand.

The crowd doesn?t do so well. ?Oh (bad word). They just put a (really bad word) fishhook in his back.?

That isn?t even the worst part.

The hooks are connected by a rope to a bar that is connected to a
pulley. Zane starts walking forward and backward, stretching the skin
around the hooks, until he?s on his tiptoes. Then he is hoisted 2 feet
off the ground. He dangles.

Mr. Zane wanted to use fewer hooks and withstand the pain longer than Mr. Angel’s five-hour, 42-minute endurance stunt.

You would think fewer hooks would bring about less pain — after all, less hooks, less quarter-inch holes sliced into your body.  But according to the experts in body suspension, the more hooks one uses, the less the pain during the hang-time.

Claims Don’t Hurt Copperfield Sales

David Copperfield Keeps on Going - Sells Out ShowsPerhaps it is a sign of the public’s faith in David Copperfield or perhaps the news of a grand jury investigation has not reached Newport News yet.

Mr. Copperfield’s shows set for later this month have completely sold out at the beautiful Ferguson Center in Newport News.

That’s an impressive accomplishment with or without potential federal charges.

Tickets for David Copperfield’s magic show at the
Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News are vanishing quickly.

He is scheduled to perform two shows on Jan. 26. The 6 p.m. show is
sold-out and a venue spokesperson says there are only a few scattered
seat tickets left for the 9 p.m. show.

Fans can still be put on a waiting list.
